QR Codes and Mobile Sites

QR Codes and “The Two Big Rules” of Mobile Websites

Open up a regular website on a smartphone such as an iPhone, Android or similar device. As a view from 30,000 feet it looks fine, but your fingers are suddenly fatter than almost anything on the screen. You can’t read the text or hit the links. And because you aren’t sitting at a desk, idly browsing, your behavior is different. You are mobile and you want something, right now! These are the challenges of marketing for mobile devices.  The Two Big Rules for mobile websites are extremely crucial, since the success of our QR Codes rests on the strength of our mobile website:
1. deliver pages that are easy to use on a small screen

2. provide the information visitors actually need

QR Codes are taking the marketing world by storm, as shown by the 800% increase in scanning traffic in early 2011 compared to the previous year. The apps for reading QR Codes are freely available, creation of them is easy and inexpensive, and they appear to magically present interesting information and videos on a smartphone screen in moments.

This is where The Two Big Rules come back into play. If you persuade a user to scan a QR Code on a smartphone, you had better have a compelling and usable page for them to land on. QR Codes and mobile websites go hand in hand.
